AeroSparx Drones returned to the Middle East to operate from the monumental Meydan Racecourse during the Dubai World Cup. The event is billed as the world's richest race day (with over $30 million in prize money), and the closing ceremony featured a display by a 2,000-strong drone swarm simultaneously with AeroSparx Display Team, along with fireworks, a light show, and a 110 metre-long video screen for a dramatic 10-minute performance.
The team worked in cooperation with locally-based operators and drone-training organisation, Airscope and Choppershoot, under an authorisation from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority and Ministry of Defence.
The complex mitigations involved, allowed AeroSparx Drones to operate camera drones during the event which hosted more than 50,000 spectators, just 3 miles from Downtown Dubai and the world-famous Burj Khalifa.
Along with operations at Meydan, AeroSparx Drones was involved with an hour of dedicated filming at the Palm Jumeirah for AeroSparx Display Team, along with Airscope. Operating from the Skydive Dubai runway on the Palm, with flights set against the backdrop of the Ain Dubai wheel and the skyscrapers of the Dubai Marina.
These operations involved airspace approvals, observers from the UAE GCAA and MoD, and were completed under a strict time pressure. They represented some of the most complex drone flights we have yet undertaken, and stand to prove that no obstacle to our drone operations is insurmountable
